Gail Eby (aka “SPEEDY EBY”) – The Soul Behind the Lens of Nostalgia Drag Racing

In a world driven by horsepower and history, Gail Eby—affectionately known in the racing community as “SPEEDY EBY”—has become one of the most cherished and respected figures in nostalgia drag racing. A videographer, historian, storyteller, and lifelong enthusiast, Gail has been behind the camera and in the pits of the most iconic AA/Fuel Altered (AA/FA) events in the country. With a racer’s heart and a documentarian’s eye, she ensures the sights, sounds, and spirit of vintage drag racing are preserved and shared for generations to come.

A Career of Capturing Culture

Gail’s motorsports journey began in earnest in 2014, at the Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon. But her connection to speed started much earlier—growing up in a family where racing was a way of life. Her father and brother competed in everything from Indy Cars to Super Stock and Circle Boat Racing, laying the foundation for Gail’s deep-rooted love for the sport.

Since then, Gail has documented a who’s who of nostalgia racing, filming and supporting top-tier teams across the AA/FA, AA/FD, and BB/FC classes. Her unique skillset as a videographer, photographer, cook, tow driver, and team media manager has made her an irreplaceable part of the paddock and beyond.

Why She’s Called “Speedy”

Nicknamed “Speedy” not just for her pace at the track but for her ability to be everywhere at once, Gail is a one-woman media crew. You’ll find her crouched beside staging lanes, balancing a camera on one shoulder while giving a thumbs-up to a crew chief, or coordinating Facebook updates before an engine even cools down.

Videography & Online Presence

With a portfolio that spans over a decade of drag racing excellence, Gail’s videography captures:

  • Nitro-fueled burnouts and chaotic starts
  • Driver interviews and behind-the-scenes team dynamics
  • Fan interactions and racer tributes
  • Archival-quality footage of historical AA/FA machines

Her social media and video channels continue to document the pulse of nostalgia racing, including:

Contributions to the Community

Beyond the camera, Gail is a pillar of support for the drag racing family:

• A reliable presence at nearly every major nostalgia event from Bakersfield to Boise

• A passionate preservationist, helping keep drag racing history alive through video

• A community connector, promoting team profiles, milestone moments, and upcoming races

• A trusted team member, helping with everything from meals to mechanical support

She is regularly credited and thanked by teams and promoters alike for her:

• Dedication to preserving the heart of nostalgia racing

• Willingness to jump in and help no matter the role

• Generosity in sharing her content freely with teams and fans

Legacy in the Making

While Gail might humbly wave off praise, her impact is undeniable. Her lens has seen it all: triumphs, heartbreaks, rebuilds, and reunions. She is not just a media producer—she is a guardian of the stories that make drag racing magical.

In a culture where speed is everything, Gail Eby slows it all down—frame by frame—so future fans can appreciate every wild, nitro-burning moment.
